NOTES ON
THE 2010 SEASON
All members
are particularly welcome to greet the Master upon arrival at the
Hunt. I would be delighted to respond to any queries made
before, during or after the Hunt. Please introduce new members
or guests to me so I can officially welcome them on behalf of
the Club.
GILES FLAT:TRAINING DAY,CHILDRENS HUNT
The Training
Day is an excellent opportunity to complete the schooling of
your horse prior to the commencement of the 2010 Season. Riders
will be given the opportunity to jump the type of fences, which
will be encountered in a typical day's Hunt, and to meet the
Master and other Club members. Riders contemplating their first
season of Hunting are encouraged to participate on this day and
the Preliminary Hunt.

are as for "The Meadows"
GREENMAN
INN
Preliminary Run
An excellent
day for the novice as there no obligatory jumps. Proceed to
Ashbourne and turn into the southern fork of the Strathalbyn
Road at the Ashbourne Church. The run begins behind the
Ashbourne cricket field.
STRATHALBYN: Opening Run
THE
TRADITIONAL OPENING RUN for the Strathalbyn Hunt Club will
commence from Fairview, the Ness family property on Michelmore
Rd 2 km from Strathalbyn on the Goolwa Rd. SHC hunts started
here in the 1960’s. Chicken and Champagne afternoon tea will be
provided to celebrate the opening of the season.
HAHNDORF HILLS:
Travel along
Hahndorf to Echunga Road and take Schmeiss Road, on left 5.5
kms. from Hahndorf. Then turn into paddock .5 km. along this
road.
SOUTH
COAST:
Starts from
the Goolwa Picnic Racecourse, opposite Goolwa Aerodrome on
Currency Creek Middleton Road. The Hunt begins on the property
of Michael & Paquita Scott.
'THE
MEADOWS' JUBILEE RUN:
Turn down
Duffield Road approximately 6 kms.along the Echunga to Meadows
Road, proceed almost to pine forest and turn left. The run
begins from the property of Peter & Heather Adcock on your left.
This is a magnificent run.
GLENFORD
GULLY:
Glenford
Gully Road is 1/2 Km on the Pt Elliot side of Middleton off the
main Goolwa to Victor Road, and runs towards the foothills.
Proceed approximately 4.5 kms to the end. Hunt begins on the
left at the property of Tony Johnston and Suzanne Hunt.
FINNISS:
Proceed 14
kilometres south of Strathalbyn on Strathalbyn to Goolwa Road.
The start is near a large old timber hay shed on left, just off
main road.
KANGARILLA:
Venue is the
Pony Club on the outskirts of Kangarilla, just off the
Kangarilla to Clarendon Road, behind the cemetery, 2 km north of
main intersection.
HIGHLAND
VALLEY:
Proceed along
the Wistow to Strathalbyn Road, and after crossing the railway
line,
turn into
Mine Flat Road. The hunt starts from 'Glenpara', about 1 km on
the left, the property of Simon & Sharon Taylor.
BALD HILL:
Travelling
from Meadows and just before Ashbourne, take first turn on left
to Strathalbyn and proceed approximately 1.5 kms. to a " Y" road
junction.
STRATHBOURNE:
Proceed along
the Ashbourne Road from Strathalbyn.
Venue begins in paddock between houses near the top of the hill.
Watch for the floats on the left about 5 kms. from
Strathalbyn. The hunt begins from the properties of the Lindsay
and Bridgeman families.
CASTLE
HILL:
One of
our favourite all weather runs. Hunt begins from Fred Meuring’s back paddock 1k
up
Hillview Road off Strathalbyn/Mt Barker Road.
KENLOTH
HILLS:
As for Bald Hill, but starting in the
corner Wattle Flat paddock Magnificent country!
GREENHILLS:
Hunt will
start from the property of Penny and
Oliver Watson. Follow signs from Meadows or Macclesfield
to Greenhills, and look for the chicken sheds near the top of
the hill.
'A Splendid
Run' which was rebuilt in 1993.
WARRADALE
PARK:
Past
Woolworths in Victor Harbour, right at roundabout.
Travel one
Km. to next roundabout and turn left and another 3 Km past
Hospital to fork in road. Take left (Waitpinga) for one Km to
Depledge Rd. Follow to left bend at house and signs to start of
Hunt.
MIKE
KAVANAGH MEMORIAL ECHUNGA RUN:
Hunt begins
from the Echunga Sales & Service/ Hagen
Arms Hotel car park, main road Echunga.
I wish all
